A Continent Pretending to Be a Country

Australia is a continent pretending to be a country — and it takes a lifetime to know, which is precisely its appeal. There is the harbour glamour of Sydney and the coffee culture of Melbourne; the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests of the tropical north; the red heart of the Outback and Uluru; and a coastline of empty beaches longer than any other on earth.

At HighStreet Holidays we don't try to cover all of it. We shape a journey around what draws you — reef and rainforest, city and wine country, or the Red Centre — with the internal flights and driving routes handled.

With access to a carefully vetted portfolio, from harbour-view city hotels to reef-island lodges, we build an Australia paced to be enjoyed rather than endured across its vast distances.

Australia is so big that the mistake everyone makes is trying to see it all at once. Pick two or three regions, do them properly, and come back for the rest.

Best Time to Visit
When to Go
SOUTHERN SUMMER
December to February
Warm to hot in the south (Sydney, Melbourne) — the classic beach and city season, and the busiest over Christmas and New Year. The tropical north is hot, humid and in its wet season.
AUTUMN
March to May
Mild and settled in the south — excellent for the cities and wine country, with smaller crowds — while the tropical north begins to dry out and open up.
WINTER
June to August
Cool in the south (ski season in the alps), but the prime dry season for the tropical north, the Great Barrier Reef and the Red Centre — the best time for the famous north.
SPRING
September to November
Warm, blooming and one of the best all-round windows, with fine weather across much of the country and lower crowds before the festive peak.
