The Home of the Walking Safari

Zambia is the home of the walking safari, and a destination for the safari purist — the leopard-rich plains of South Luangwa, the canoeing and game of the Lower Zambezi, and its share of the mighty Victoria Falls. This is wild, authentic, low-key Africa, with superb guiding and a fraction of the crowds.

At HighStreet Holidays we don't simply book Zambia — we route a fly-in safari between its great parks and the Falls, with the bush camps, light aircraft and transfers handled.

With access to a carefully vetted portfolio, from intimate South Luangwa bush camps to Victoria Falls lodges, we build a Zambia safari that is wild, exclusive and led by some of Africa's finest guides.

Zambia is for the safari purist — where the walking safari was born, the guiding is exceptional and the bush feels genuinely wild and uncrowded.

Born in South Luangwa — tracking wildlife on foot with an expert armed guide, a thrilling, intimate way to experience the bush that Zambia does best.
leopards
South Luangwa
One of Africa's great parks, famous for leopards, with superb night drives and a wonderful density of game along the Luangwa River.
The Lower Zambezi
Canoeing past elephants and hippos on the great river, with game drives and fishing — a beautiful, water-based safari with the escarpment behind.
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls
The Zambian side of the mighty Falls, the heart-stopping Devil's Pool at the edge in low-water season, and the bridge for the adventurous.
Zambia
Night Drives
Pioneered in Zambia — after-dark game drives reveal leopards, civets and the nocturnal bush that day drives never show.

Best Time to Visit
When to Go
DRY SEASON & PEAK
June to October
The prime safari season — dry, with wildlife concentrated at the rivers and walking safaris at their best. October is hot but superb for game; the busiest window, so book ahead.
THE FALLS IN FLOOD
February to May
Victoria Falls is at its thundering, spray-soaked peak after the rains — most dramatic for the Falls, though some bush camps close in the wettest months.
GREEN SEASON
November to April
The emerald season brings lush landscapes, newborns and superb birding, with the best value. Some camps close; those open offer a beautiful, quiet experience.
DEVIL'S POOL
August to January
When the river is low (roughly August to January), the famous Devil's Pool at the very edge of Victoria Falls is open — an unforgettable, only-here experience.

Practical Information
Practical Information
Getting There
  • No direct flights — typically around 13-15 hours via a hub (Johannesburg, Addis Ababa or Doha) to Lusaka or Livingstone
  • Connections from major regional UK airports
  • Light aircraft link the parks
  • Zambia is 1-2 hours ahead of the UK
Entry Requirements
  • UK passport holders are visa-free for tourism in Zambia
  • Passport valid 6 months
  • Onward or return ticket
  • If combining with Zimbabwe for Victoria Falls, the KAZA UniVisa (around US$50) covers both countries — we advise on the best option
Health & Safety
  • Antimalarial precautions are recommended for safari areas and river regions — see a travel clinic 6-8 weeks before travel for personalised advice
  • A yellow-fever certificate is required only if you are arriving from a country with a risk of transmission, not when flying directly from the UK
  • Routine vaccinations should be up to date
  • Comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is essential
Currency & Local Notes
  • The currency is the Zambian Kwacha (ZMW); US Dollars are widely used in tourism, cards in lodges and towns
  • English is the official language
  • On a fly-in safari most costs are included
  • Strict soft-bag baggage limits apply on light aircraft
