A Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland is a land of fire and ice, barely three hours from London — thundering waterfalls and erupting geysers, glaciers and black-sand beaches, geothermal lagoons and, in winter, the Northern Lights dancing overhead. Few places pack so much raw, otherworldly drama into so small and accessible a country.

At HighStreet Holidays we don't simply book Iceland — we route it: the Golden Circle and south coast, a Ring Road journey, or a winter aurora escape, with the hotels, guides and transfers handled.

With access to a carefully vetted portfolio, from Reykjavík design hotels to remote glacier lodges, we build an Iceland trip that captures its drama in real comfort.

Iceland is the most otherworldly place within three hours of London — waterfalls, glaciers, geysers and, in winter, the aurora overhead. Nothing prepares you for it.

Signature Experiences
Moments That Linger
Iceland rewards the traveller who comes for its landscapes. These are the experiences our clients come home remembering.
The Northern Lights
From roughly September to April, the aurora dances over the dark Icelandic skies — chased by guided tour or watched from a remote countryside lodge.
The Golden Circle
The Golden Circle
The erupting Geysir, the thundering Gullfoss waterfall and the rift valley of Thingvellir — Iceland's greatest hits, within easy reach of Reykjavík.
Glaciers & the South Coast
Glaciers & the South Coast
Black-sand beaches, waterfalls and the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where icebergs drift to the sea — the most dramatic stretch of the island.
Geothermal Spas
Geothermal Spas
The Blue Lagoon and the newer Sky Lagoon — bathing in mineral-rich warm water amid the lava, the most relaxing of Icelandic rituals.
The Ring Road
The Ring Road
The road that circles the island — fjords, volcanoes, waterfalls and remote farms, the great Icelandic road trip for those with a week or more.
Whales & Wildlife
Whales & Wildlife
Whale watching from Húsavík and Reykjavík, puffins in summer and Icelandic horses — wildlife amid the volcanic scenery.

Best Time to Visit
When to Go
AURORA SEASON
September to April
The dark months are the season for the Northern Lights, with snowy landscapes, ice caves and geothermal spas — cold, but magical, with the aurora the star.
SUMMER
June to August
The midnight sun, mild weather and open Ring Road — the prime time for self-drives, the highlands, puffins and whale watching. No aurora at this time.
SHOULDER
May & September
Fewer crowds and good value, with long days in May and early aurora chances in September — a fine balance of access and quiet.
ICE CAVES
November to March
The natural blue ice caves under the glaciers are accessible only in the cold months — a spectacular, only-in-winter experience.

Practical Information
Practical Information
Getting There
  • Direct flights from London — around 3 hours to Reykjavík (British Airways, Icelandair, easyJet)
  • Direct flights also from several regional UK airports
  • Iceland is on the same time as the UK in winter, an hour behind in summer
Entry Requirements
  • UK passport holders: visa-free under the Schengen 90/180-day rule (up to 90 days in any 180-day period, counted across all Schengen countries)
  • The EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) is now in operation — on your first entry you give a facial image and fingerprints at the border, rather than a passport stamp
  • ETIAS, a travel authorisation (not a visa), is expected in late 2026 and is not yet required
  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your departure
Health & Safety
  • No vaccinations are legally required for entry from the UK
  • Note that the UK GHIC is not valid in Iceland, so comprehensive travel insurance is essential
  • Respect weather and road warnings — conditions change fast
  • Medical facilities are excellent
Currency & Local Notes
  • The currency is the Icelandic Króna (ISK), not the Euro; Iceland is almost cashless, so cards work everywhere
  • It is expensive — budget accordingly
  • Tap water is among the purest anywhere
  • Tipping is not expected
