About the Resort
Longyearbyen's upscale boutique hotel
Funken Lodge

Funken Lodge is Longyearbyen's upscale boutique hotel, at the top of the Hill in the town's grandest historic building, built in 1947 for the coal company and fully refurbished in 2018. Contemporary Nordic interiors, a fireside lobby and a polar-literature library look out over the town and the surrounding glaciers, across eighty-eight rooms and suites. Dining at Funktionaermessen follows a sharing concept built on Finnmark king crab, dry-aged meat and Svalbard reindeer, and the signature 1954 Old Wine Monopoly cellar hosts sommelier-led champagne tastings in the room where miners once collected their quotas. Arctic comfort with coal-mining heritage.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Funken Lodge. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Basecamp Hotel

Basecamp Hotel
Basecamp Hotel is the closest thing to your own Arctic hunting lodge: a characterful trapper's-style boutique in central Longyearbyen, lined with driftwood, sealskin, slate and trapping artefacts. Its sixteen rooms are individually decorated and no two are alike, deliberately TV-free for an unplugged stay, with comfortable beds and private bathrooms. A cosy lounge-pub anchors the ground floor and the glass-roofed Cognac Attic opens to the northern lights or the midnight sun; breakfast is generous and the town's best restaurants are next door. Run by Basecamp Explorer, it is the launch point for dog-sledding, snowmobiling and remote-wilderness basecamps. Authentic, rustic-chic and adventure-led.

Svalbard
Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, Spitsbergen
The Radisson Blu Polar Hotel is the world's northernmost full-service hotel, in the heart of Longyearbyen with the iconic Hiorthfjellet mountain as its backdrop and views over Adventfjorden. Modern and family-friendly, refurbished in 2019, it offers ninety-five rooms and suites, the polar-heritage junior suites adding space for families, all en-suite. The high-ceilinged Restaurant Nansen serves an Arctic menu with a Hiorthfjellet view, the Barentz Gastropub keeps things relaxed, and a sauna and hot tub wait for thawing out after dog-sledding. Eco-certified and steps from the Svalbard Museum and the airport bus. The reliable, full-service Longyearbyen base.
Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel
Svalbard
Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel
Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel is a remote wilderness boutique set in a preserved 1933 radio station at Kapp Linne, around 90 kilometres beyond Longyearbyen on the far west coast of Spitsbergen, where the road ends. Twenty-two cosy rooms sit across three heritage buildings, with communal bathrooms, a fireside lounge, and a clifftop sauna with an Arctic dip over the Isfjorden. The real surprise is a genuine fine-dining table sourcing seal, whale, halibut and reindeer from Svalbard's last trappers, all homemade. Reached only by boat in summer or snowmobile and dog-sled in winter, solar-powered and heritage-protected. Comfort and gastronomy at the literal edge of the world.
