Little Kulala

Little Kulala is the Sossusvlei lodge with the dunes closest to hand — the only camp with a private gate into the reserve, which means direct, early access to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Big Mama before the crowds arrive. It sits on the 37,000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve on the Namib-Naukluft border, eleven thatched kulalas along a dry riverbed, each with a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers, floor-to-ceiling windows and — the signature — a rooftop skybed reached by an internal staircase, for sleeping out under some of the darkest skies on earth. Days run on nature drives and walks across the reserve, Sesriem Canyon, eco-quad biking, hot-air ballooning and horse riding, all-inclusive. Where the andBeyond lodge leans on design and its observatory an hour from the dunes, Little Kulala leans on access and the skybed. Reached by light aircraft or self-drive, and malaria-free, it suits couples, honeymooners and photographers, with a family kulala and children six and over.
