About the Resort
The closest camp to the dunes, with a skybed
Little Kulala

Little Kulala is the Sossusvlei lodge with the dunes closest to hand — the only camp with a private gate into the reserve, which means direct, early access to Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and Big Mama before the crowds arrive. It sits on the 37,000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve on the Namib-Naukluft border, eleven thatched kulalas along a dry riverbed, each with a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers, floor-to-ceiling windows and — the signature — a rooftop skybed reached by an internal staircase, for sleeping out under some of the darkest skies on earth. Days run on nature drives and walks across the reserve, Sesriem Canyon, eco-quad biking, hot-air ballooning and horse riding, all-inclusive. Where the andBeyond lodge leans on design and its observatory an hour from the dunes, Little Kulala leans on access and the skybed. Reached by light aircraft or self-drive, and malaria-free, it suits couples, honeymooners and photographers, with a family kulala and children six and over.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Little Kulala. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Namibia
andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is the ultra-luxury Namib design icon — 11 stone-and-glass suites on a 12,715-hectare private reserve, each with a private plunge pool and a retractable skylight over the bed for stargazing as you fall asleep. It sits beside the NamibRand International Dark Sky Reserve, Africa's first, and backs it up with an on-site observatory, a resident astronomer and a telescope — among the darkest skies on earth. The Sossusvlei and Deadvlei dunes are within reach for excursions, open-4×4 nature drives cross the reserve, and the all-inclusive runs to meals, drinks and activities. Roughly an hour from the dunes, it trades closest-access for design and astronomy — solar-powered ultra-luxury in the world's oldest desert.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
Namibia
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is the desert-wildlife camp — eight tented suites in a remote private concession in the Kaokoveld, at the confluence of dry Hoanib River tributaries, bordering Skeleton Coast National Park. The prize here is the wildlife: twice-daily game drives for the famous desert-adapted lion, which range vast distances and feed on marine life at the coast, and desert elephant in one of Africa's greatest concentrations, alongside brown hyena, giraffe and Hartmann's zebra. A full-day Skeleton Coast excursion flies and drives you to the ocean for seal colonies, shipwrecks, dune fields and a beach lunch. Wilderness's most remote Namibia camp, fly-in only, solar-powered, with the dry-river ecosystem and dark-sky stargazing at the door.
Shipwreck Lodge
Namibia
Shipwreck Lodge
Shipwreck Lodge is the Skeleton Coast icon — the only lodge inside Skeleton Coast National Park, where the dunes meet the Atlantic in one of the most remote corners of NW Namibia. Its ten cabins are shaped like the shipwrecks that name this coast, elevated on the sand with wood-burning stoves and big windows onto the ocean, and it holds Two MICHELIN Keys. There is no road in — a fly-in and a 4×4 transfer past a seal colony and wrecks deliver you to the edge of the world. Scenic 4×4 excursions run up the Hoarusib River to the clay castles and roaring dunes, with quad biking, beach-combing, desert-adapted wildlife and zero-light-pollution stargazing. The setting is the draw — there is no pool, and none is needed.
