Steigenberger Alcazar, Sharm El Sheikh

Steigenberger Alcazar is a large all-inclusive family resort at Nabq Bay in Sharm El Sheikh, on the Red Sea in South Sinai — the most mainstream of Egypt's Red Sea trio, and built for families. The scale is the appeal: 584 rooms and suites, including swim-up rooms with direct private-pool access, on a 35,000-square-metre private beach, with kids' clubs, animation and evening entertainment that make it an easy family holiday. Dining spans seven restaurants — two main buffets and five à la carte specialty restaurants — with lobby, pool and beach bars, and there is the Mivida Spa and three pools, heated in winter. The diving is world-class: the resort is near Ras Mohammed National Park, and the private beach has its own underwater scenery. One honest note on the beach itself — it is rocky in places, with jetty and sea-shoe access for swimming, which is exactly what makes it so good just offshore for snorkellers. Around 15 minutes from the airport with direct UK and EU charters, it is a value-minded, all-inclusive Sharm base for families.
