The Yeatman

The Yeatman is the wine-lover's hilltop hotel over Porto and the Douro — owned by the Fladgate Partnership, the family behind Taylor's port since 1838, on a hill in Vila Nova de Gaia across the river from Porto in the historic port-lodge district. Its theme runs deep: around 109 rooms each named after a Portuguese wine producer with themed antiques, a twenty-five-thousand-bottle cellar, a decanter-shaped outdoor infinity pool over the Douro and a Caudalie Vinotherapie grape-based spa with Roman-style baths. The two-Michelin-starred Gastronomic Restaurant from chef Ricardo Costa is Porto's premier table, every room frames Porto and the river from a private terrace or balcony, and wine tastings, seminars and Douro Valley trips fill the days. The setting is the heart of port country: the Taylor's lodge and the World of Wine quarter sit next door, the Dom Luis I bridge and the UNESCO Ribeira are a walk across the river, and the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley lie an hour upriver. It is the Porto-and-wine pick of the page — pairing naturally with a Douro Valley wine trip.
