A Thousand Small Revelations

No country rewards the traveller quite like Japan, where the ancient and the ultramodern sit side by side without friction. Kyoto's temples and geisha districts; Tokyo's neon and impeccable order; the bullet train gliding past Mount Fuji; a ryokan dinner of quiet perfection — Japan is a thousand small revelations, delivered with a courtesy found nowhere else.

At HighStreet Holidays we don't simply book Japan — we choreograph it: the cities, the cultural heart of Kyoto, a rural onsen town, the rail pass and the timing, so a complex country feels effortless.

With access to a carefully vetted portfolio from city towers to traditional ryokan, we build a Japan paced to be savoured — whether in cherry blossom or autumn fire.

Japan rewards slow travel and repeat visits like nowhere else. A week only shows you how much you'll want to come back.

Signature Experiences
Moments That Linger
Japan rewards the curious like few places on earth. These are the experiences our clients come home remembering.
Japan's two great seasons
Cherry Blossom & Autumn Fire
Japan's two great seasons — the pink rush of spring sakura (late March to early April) and the reds and golds of autumn (late October to mid-November). We time the trip to catch them.
The golden Kinkaku-ji, the vermilion gates of Fushimi Inari, the bamboo of Arashiyama and the lantern-lit lanes of Gion
Kyoto's Temples
The golden Kinkaku-ji, the vermilion gates of Fushimi Inari, the bamboo of Arashiyama and the lantern-lit lanes of Gion — Kyoto is the cultural soul of Japan.
Neon Shibuya, serene shrines, the world's best food at every price, and impeccable order
Tokyo
Neon Shibuya, serene shrines, the world's best food at every price, and impeccable order — Tokyo is a dozen cities in one, all of them fascinating.
The Shinkansen glides between cities at 200mph past Mount Fuji
The Bullet Train
The Shinkansen glides between cities at 200mph past Mount Fuji — a thrill in itself, and the elegant way to travel Japan. A rail pass can be arranged.
A night in a traditional ryokan inn
Ryokan & Onsen
A night in a traditional ryokan inn — tatami floors, a kaiseki feast and a hot-spring bath — is the most quietly perfect experience Japan offers.
The shrines of Nara, the floating gate at Miyajima, the peace memorial at Hiroshima, the snow monkeys of Nagano
Beyond the Cities
The shrines of Nara, the floating gate at Miyajima, the peace memorial at Hiroshima, the snow monkeys of Nagano — Japan rewards every extra day.

Best Time to Visit
When to Go
SPRING (CHERRY BLOSSOM)
March to May
The cherry blossom (late March to early April) and mild, beautiful weather make this the most sought-after window — and the most crowded. Book several months ahead.
AUTUMN
Late September to November
Fiery foliage, clear skies and comfortable temperatures — a rival to spring and a touch quieter. Many specialists' favourite season.
SUMMER
June to August
Hot and humid, with a rainy spell early on. Festivals abound, and the mountains and Hokkaido offer cool relief; demand is lower than the headline seasons.
WINTER
December to February
Cold and crisp, with superb skiing in Hokkaido and the Alps, fewer tourists in the cities and the onsen at their most inviting. A quietly magical time.
