December to February
Warm, with long days — the peak season for beaches, hiking and the outdoors, and the busiest and priciest, especially around Christmas. Book the best lodges well ahead.
AUTUMN
March to May
Settled, golden and quieter, with lovely light and fewer crowds — a favourite of seasoned travellers and excellent for touring.
WINTER
June to August
Cool and crisp, with world-class skiing around Queenstown and the Southern Alps. The North Island stays milder; a quieter, atmospheric time to visit.
SPRING
September to November
Fresh and green, with blossom and newborn lambs, and good value before the summer rush — a lovely time for the gardens and the south.

Your flight reaches Auckland via a single hub — around 24-30 hours in all. A private transfer and a gentle first evening in the City of Sails.

South to Rotorua for geysers, Maori culture and a hangi feast, with Hobbiton or the glow-worm caves of Waitomo along the way.

Cross to the South Island for Christchurch, the alpine TranzAlpine railway and the glaciers and rainforest of the wild West Coast.
