Amara, Limassol

Amara is the design-led, every-room-sees-the-sea hotel of Limassol — an ultra-contemporary marble landmark on the Amathus beachfront where all 207 sea-facing rooms hold a 180-degree Mediterranean view, some with cascading plunge pools onto the terrace. Its dining is a celebrity-chef line-up of Matsuhisa, the Japanese-Peruvian table from Nobu Matsuhisa in a David Rockwell room, Ristorante Locatelli from Giorgio Locatelli and Beefbar by Ricardo Giraudi, joined by a rooftop bar over the bay. The three-thousand-square-metre AMARA Spa, with nine treatment rooms and Carita, is built over the ancient city walls of Amathus, and the adults-only seawater infinity pool is the only one in Cyprus, set alongside outdoor pools, a children's pool and a private beach. The setting is the heart of the Limassol coast: the hotel stands by the ruins of the ancient kingdom of Amathus, around two kilometres from St Raphael Marina and twenty minutes from the buzz of Limassol Marina, with the Greco-Roman theatre of Kourion, the Troodos wine villages and Limassol's old town and its carob-mill quarter all within reach along the coast. It is the sleek, design-and-dining couples' side of Limassol — distinct from the big family-and-scene Parklane. Year-round, on Cyprus's mild coast.
