Amari Phuket

Amari Phuket has the quiet southern corner of Patong almost to itself. The resort runs down its own headland to a private stretch of Andaman sand, screened from the strip by a shoulder of green — yet the restaurants, markets and noise of Patong are a five-minute walk away when you want them. That is the whole appeal: a beach and three pools of your own by day, the busiest town on the island on your doorstep by night. Rooms step down the slope in two settings, the older coastal wings near the water and newer villas up the hill, and the headline is the Club Pakarang infinity pool, hung over Patong Bay so the edge seems to spill into the sea. Families come for the kids' club, the pools and the easy diving and snorkelling off the beach with the resident Sea Bees centre; couples come for the seclusion at a price that leaves room for the rest of the holiday. It is the relaxed, well-judged way to have Phuket's most famous beach town and a private cove in the same day.
