Hacienda Zuleta

Hacienda Zuleta is a 1691 colonial working hacienda in the Andean highlands, two hours north of Quito, owned by the family of former president Galo Plaza Lasso for over a century. Around twenty-one antique rooms in the historic main building each have a wood-burning fireplace and hand-embroidered Zuleta linens. Full-board home cooking comes from the 4,000-acre organic farm — its own dairy, cheese factory and trout — served at a communal table. Days run to riding the hacienda's own Zuleteño horse breed across 60-plus kilometres of trails, the Cóndor Huasi conservation project, cheese-making, embroidery and tea with the family.
