About the Resort
Branson's Moroccan home in the High Atlas
Kasbah Tamadot

Kasbah Tamadot is the mountain escape to Marrakech's city hotels — Sir Richard Branson's Moroccan home, a Virgin Limited Edition retreat in the High Atlas foothills near the Berber village of Asni, around an hour from the city, with Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, on the horizon. It holds Three MICHELIN Keys, and was rebuilt and expanded after the 2023 earthquake. The 42 rooms and suites are individually decorated with Luciano Tempo antiques, from main-building Deluxe rooms and suites to draped Berber tent suites with soaking tubs and private terraces, six new three-bedroom riads and a master suite with its own pool. The pull is the setting and the culture: mule treks to Berber villages, cooking lessons and bread baking, a traditional mint-tea ceremony, and a visit to the Eve Branson Foundation in the community, with an outdoor infinity pool over the river valley and a mountain hammam to come back to. Dining is at Kanoun and the Berber Asayss. It suits couples, honeymooners and active, cultural travellers, with riads for families.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Kasbah Tamadot. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

La Mamounia
La Mamounia is Marrakech's grande-dame palace — a 1923 institution inside the medina walls, repeatedly ranked among the world's finest hotels. Its eight hectares of historic gardens, with centuries-old olive trees and thousands of rose bushes, are open around the clock for the famous dawn olive-grove walk. The 209 rooms, suites and three private riads carry Arab-Andalusian zellige, carved plaster and cedar over Art Deco bones, and the dining brings Pierre Hermé patisserie and Jean-Georges Vongerichten under one roof, alongside the Churchill Bar and a nine-room spa with a hammam. The Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fnaa are on the doorstep — the Marrakech palace benchmark.

Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech
Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech is the modern, all-villa counterpoint to the city's historic palaces — 20 hectares of olive groves and gardens planted with 100,000 roses, around 10 minutes from the medina and backed by the snow-capped Atlas. Every one of its 54 private villas has a walled garden, a private heated pool, a hot tub and an open-air shower, joined by nine suites, several with their own rooftop or infinity pools. Berber and Moorish design meets contemporary tadelakt, the dining runs from Ling Ling to Moroccan Mes'Lalla, and an oversized award-winning spa carries a double hammam — contemporary riad living with the peaks on the horizon.

Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa
The Sofitel Essaouira Mogador is a coastal golf-and-beach resort on the Domaine de Mogador, ten minutes south of Essaouira's UNESCO medina, set across 600 hectares of forest, dunes and beach. Its draw is the Gary Player golf course running down to the Atlantic, paired with the famously windy Essaouira coast — one of Africa's best for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Around 175 rooms and suites plus 28 family pool villas with butlers spread across the estate, alongside a large spa with a hammam, a kids' club, the So Lounge for music and entertainment, and Moroccan cooking and Gnaoua workshops, with a free shuttle into the medina.
