Kruger Shalati

Kruger Shalati is a globally singular stay — a static, restored luxury train permanently stationed on the disused Selati Bridge over the Sabie River, inside the southern Kruger National Park. The headline is the concept: 24 glass-walled Carriage Suites in restored 1950s carriages strung along the bridge, around 50 metres above a hippo-filled river, plus an iconic pool that hangs out over the water from the bridge itself, with seven Bridge House Suites in a garden setting beside it. It is among the most time-efficient ways into a luxury Kruger safari — a short flight to Skukuza and a quick drive. One thing to be clear on: the train sits inside the national park, not a private reserve, so game drives follow national-park rules; the draw here is the train concept and the easy access, not exclusive off-road traversing. Dining is at the African-inspired Bridge House and the restored historic Kruger Station nearby, and the rate is inclusive of meals, house drinks and two game drives a day. A design-led, romantic Kruger stay that pairs naturally with Cape Town and the Winelands.

- Fly to Skukuza Airport (SKZ) from Johannesburg or Cape Town, then a short drive — the most time-efficient luxury Kruger safari.
