Meliá Serengeti Lodge

Meliá Serengeti Lodge is the central Serengeti's comfortable, well-priced base — a two-storey hillside lodge on the southern slopes of the Nyamuma Hills, overlooking the Mbalageti River valley and a lagoon, with an infinity pool that looks out over the plains. Fifty rooms spread across two floors, around 33 square metres each with ceiling fans, plus two larger Serengeti Suites for families, and the setting draws migration views in peak season around June and July. It is built with families in mind — interconnecting rooms, two-bedroom suites and a Kids & Co programme — and the model is flexible, not fixed: the lodge is booked on bed and breakfast, with an optional Safari Experience package that adds Seronera transfers, a half-day shared-Jeep game drive and a bush picnic. That makes it a different proposition from the all-inclusive luxury camps — a relaxed, value-minded place to base a Serengeti trip, with the safari arranged as an add-on when you want it. Reached by a light-aircraft hop to Seronera and a short drive, it is the easygoing way into the plains.
