About the Resort
A heritage hotel in the heart of Stone Town
Park Hyatt Zanzibar

Park Hyatt Zanzibar is the island's one Stone Town hotel — the cultural and arrival counterpoint to the beach resorts, in the UNESCO heart of the old town on the Shangani seafront. It is built partly into the Mambo Msiige, a historic mansion from 1847 with Omani arches and carved doors, joined by the modern Zamani Residence, with 78 rooms and suites across the two, many looking over the ocean and the dhow harbours. The setting is the experience: winding alleys, bazaars, mosques, the famed hand-carved Zanzibari doors and spice markets, all on the doorstep, with spice tours and dhow cruises to arrange and an oceanfront infinity pool above the harbours for dhow-harbour sunsets. Dining runs from the colonial-style Dining Room to the seafront Library and Veranda and the Pool Lounge. This is a city and culture hotel, not a beach resort — best paired with one of the island's beaches for a full Zanzibar stay. Around 10 to 15 minutes from the airport, it suits couples and culture travellers, and makes the perfect island bookend.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Park Hyatt Zanzibar. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Zuri Zanzibar

Zuri Zanzibar
Zuri Zanzibar is a design-led resort on Kendwa, on the island's NW coast — and its beach is the headline. Where much of Zanzibar is heavily tidal, Kendwa is a non-tidal lagoon, west-facing for sunsets and safe for swimming all day. The only African beach hotel in Design Hotels, built to a world-first EarthCheck Sustainable Design Gold standard, it spreads around 56 bungalows, suites and villas across 12 hectares of gardens, the villas with private infinity pools steps from the sand. A sunset sail on the resort's own LaPorte dhow, a spice-garden tour, a spa and Mnemba snorkelling round it out — distinctive, sustainable and built around its swimmable beach.
Meliá Zanzibar
Zanzibar
Meliá Zanzibar
Meliá Zanzibar is the largest of the island's resorts here — a 40-acre estate on Kiwengwa, its white-sand beach ringed by a natural coral reef that calms the bay for bathing. Its signature is the over-water jetty restaurant reaching into the lagoon, and its draw for luxury clients is The Level: a premium tier of private-pool villas with butlers, an exclusive lounge and pool and premium all-inclusive. Around 134 rooms, adults-only ocean-front pavilions and family villas spread across the estate, joined by the YHI Spa, three pools, Mnemba snorkelling and water sports — a resort that works for couples and families alike, with a clear VIP layer for those who want it.
Baraza Resort and Spa Zanzibar
Zanzibar
Baraza Resort and Spa Zanzibar
Baraza is an ornate, intimate all-inclusive resort on award-winning Bwejuu Beach — 30 villas built in Sultans'-palace style, with arches, hand-carved white stone, brass lanterns and baraza benches, each with its own plunge pool. A Condé Nast "60 best new hotels in the world" property, it leans into culture: a resident Taarab band and Swahili dancers, Swahili lessons, palm weaving and the Bao game, alongside PADI diving, dolphin trips and spice-farm tours. The Frangipani Spa adds an underwater-music lap pool and a Sultan's Bath, and the all-inclusive runs down to sundowner cocktails. Bwejuu's SE-coast beach is tide-dependent for swimming — the design, culture and plunge pools carry the day.
