About the Resort
A design-led beach you can swim off all day
Zuri Zanzibar

Zuri Zanzibar is the island's design-led beach resort, and it sits on one of Zanzibar's rare prizes — a non-tidal beach. On a 300-metre west-facing stretch of Kendwa, on the north-west coast, the lagoon lets you swim all day, and the beach faces the sunset; most of the island's east and south coasts can't say either. It is the only African beach property in Design Hotels, built to a world-first EarthCheck Sustainable Design Gold standard, with around 56 bungalows, suites and villas in 12 hectares of tropical gardens, the villas adding private infinity pools and jacuzzis. Days run on a sunset sail aboard the resort's own dhow, a tour of the on-site spice garden, and snorkelling and diving at Mnemba Atoll, with three restaurants, four bars and private Dining by Design. The atmosphere skews adult and romantic, though one- to three-bedroom villas suit families with older children. Around an hour from Stone Town, it is the design-and-sustainability pick — and the one to choose for all-day swimming.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Zuri Zanzibar. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Tulia Zanzibar Unique Beach Resort
Tulia is the intimate, value-luxury all-inclusive — around 16 villas on a private beach at Pongwe, on the island's E coast, with some of Zanzibar's highest guest scores. The all-inclusive is à la carte and generous, running from fresh seafood to champagne, and it folds in a private round-trip airport transfer, a complimentary massage and unlimited yoga. Seafront villas come with private pools and in-room ocean-view tubs, the spa and the island's first waterslides cover couples and families alike, and kayaking and Pongwe-reef snorkelling fill the days. With only 16 villas, service feels personal — a multi-award-winning romantic boutique. Pongwe's E-coast beach is tide-dependent for swimming.
Meliá Zanzibar
Zanzibar
Meliá Zanzibar
Meliá Zanzibar is the largest of the island's resorts here — a 40-acre estate on Kiwengwa, its white-sand beach ringed by a natural coral reef that calms the bay for bathing. Its signature is the over-water jetty restaurant reaching into the lagoon, and its draw for luxury clients is The Level: a premium tier of private-pool villas with butlers, an exclusive lounge and pool and premium all-inclusive. Around 134 rooms, adults-only ocean-front pavilions and family villas spread across the estate, joined by the YHI Spa, three pools, Mnemba snorkelling and water sports — a resort that works for couples and families alike, with a clear VIP layer for those who want it.
Park Hyatt Zanzibar
Zanzibar
Park Hyatt Zanzibar
Park Hyatt Zanzibar is the island's cultural counterpoint to its beach resorts — an intimate heritage city hotel on the Stone Town seafront, inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Half of its 78 rooms sit in the Mambo Msiige, an 1847 mansion of Omani arches and carved doors, the rest in the modern Zamani Residence, many with ocean or dhow-harbour views. An oceanfront infinity pool looks over the harbours for sunset, while Stone Town's winding alleys, bazaars, mosques, famed carved doors and spice markets are all on the doorstep. Colonial-style and seafront dining, spice tours and dhow cruises make it the perfect island arrival or cultural bookend — pair it with a beach property for a full Zanzibar stay.
