About the Resort
Maputo's restored colonial Grand Dame
Polana Serena Hotel

The Polana Serena Hotel is Maputo's Grand Dame — a grand colonial-era hotel built in 1922 and restored by the Aga Khan network, standing on a cliff over Maputo Bay in around four hectares of gardens in the heart of the capital. It is the city and arrival bookend for a Mozambique trip, a polished base to pair with a Bazaruto or Benguerra beach stay, not a beach property itself. Around 142 rooms run from the grand colonial main building, with hand-carved wood and bay-facing balconies, to the contemporary Polana Mar wing and the standalone Villa Mar garden villas. Dining is Delagoa for fine dining, Aquarius for sushi and the 1920s main bar with mosaic floors, and there are two ocean-view pools, including an infinity pool over the bay, and the Maisha Spa. Beyond the hotel lies the cultural capital — a Bantu, Portuguese, Arabian and Indian crossroads of museums, art and markets — with Inhaca Island day trips, sunset cruises and the restored 1920s ballroom. Road-accessible and a short transfer from the city airport, it suits heritage and culture travellers, business guests and event parties.

“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Polana Serena Hotel. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Santorini Mozambique
Santorini Mozambique is the convenient, no-island-flight option — a Grecian-style villa collection of all-white domes on the red cliffs of Kingfisher Bay, around 20 minutes by road from Vilanculos airport, elevated over the bay with Bazaruto Archipelago views and a private beach below. Five suites in the Main Villa, each named after a Bazaruto island, sit alongside two exclusive-use villas, so you can book whole or by suite. A personal chef serves Mediterranean and fresh seafood across a courtyard, poolside and a beach boma, and the resort's exclusive-use boat runs trips out to the archipelago islands. Greek-island design, mainland convenience and whole-villa exclusivity — the easy-access luxury base for Vilanculos and the islands.
Kisawa Sanctuary

Kisawa Sanctuary
Kisawa is the top of the Mozambique market — around 12 residences across a 300-hectare private sanctuary at the southern tip of Benguerra, each on its own roughly one-acre plot with a private beach, infinity pool and outdoor kitchen for maximum seclusion. It is the world's first 3D-printed resort, built with a patented sand-cement and traditional sand-and-seaweed mortar and local craft, furnished with pan-African antiques. The standalone Natural Wellness Center is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, and a sister ocean observatory — Africa's first permanent one, the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies — sits alongside for guests to engage with. Diving, dhow sailing, the Bazaruto marine life and a beach club complete an ultra-exclusive design-and-wellness sanctuary.
andBeyond Benguerra Island
Mozambique
andBeyond Benguerra Island
andBeyond Benguerra is a premier Bazaruto island lodge — stone-and-thatch casinhas and cabanas in indigenous forest on the protected western shore of Benguerra, on a deep lagoon unaffected by tides, so you can swim off the beach all day. Around 15 units carry private decks with rim-flow or plunge pools and hanging-daybed salas, and a converted dhow serves as the beach bar. The setting is a protected marine reserve, home to Africa's only dugong population, pristine coral reefs and game fishing, with a PADI dive centre, sunset dhow cruises and horseback riding on the dunes. Barefoot luxury, reached by a scenic helicopter — the Indian-Ocean finish to a Kruger or Gorongosa safari.
