Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Singita Sasakwa Lodge is grand safari in the old style — an Edwardian manor of private cottages and a villa atop Sasakwa Hill, on the 350,000-acre private Singita Grumeti Reserve in northern Tanzania, with endless plains views and the Great Migration passing through. The setting is the luxury: a private concession on the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem means game drives go off-road, after dark and between the herds, at very low vehicle density, none of which the national parks permit. Around ten cottages, a secluded Hillside Suite and a four-bedroom villa each have a private infinity or plunge pool over the plains, furnished with Edwardian-manor antiques, African artefacts, fireplaces and four-posters. This is where Sasakwa parts ways with its sister icon Mwiba: here it is grandeur, the Grumeti-River crossings around May to July, and rare equestrian safaris from the lodge's own stables. Days fill with drives, horseback rides, tennis, archery and stargazing, all of it all-inclusive down to premium wines and spirits. Reached by a light-aircraft hop to Grumeti, it is for couples, connoisseurs and groups after exclusivity on a vast scale.
