Giraffe Manor

Giraffe Manor is the only place on earth where endangered giraffes join you for breakfast — a 1932 manor house in the leafy Langata suburb of Nairobi, home to a resident herd of Rothschild's giraffes that lean their heads in through the windows at breakfast and afternoon tea. Part of The Safari Collection, it sits on twelve acres within 140 acres of indigenous forest, and it is the classic first or last night of a Kenyan safari, the airport around 45 minutes away. The twelve suites, across the original 1932 Historic Manor and the Garden Manor, are vintage-elegant with four-posters and individual styling, among them the Karen Blixen and Finch Hatton suites, names straight out of Out of Africa. Stays are all-inclusive, and the setting opens onto a whole cluster of Nairobi experiences — the adjacent AFEW Giraffe Centre that conserves the herd, the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, the Karen Blixen Museum and the Kazuri Beads women's cooperative. It is in huge demand: plan one or two nights, not a safari base, and book a year or more ahead.
