One&Only Le Saint Géran

More than fifty years on its private east-coast peninsula, Le Saint Géran is the island's grande dame — and One&Only has kept it current. Around 160 suites and villas, up to the standalone Villa One, look over the lagoon and the sea, reached along a peninsula you set foot on only as a guest. The spa is destination-class: twelve treatment rooms, Biologique Recherche, a Bastien Gonzalez studio and a lap pool. Days run to a nine-hole golf course, the island's only Henri Leconte-designed padel court, kitesurfing and PADI diving, with a watersports centre on the lagoon. Five restaurants span a premium grill at Prime, pan-Asian and Japanese at Tapasake — rated among the island's best — seafood over coconut embers at La Pointe, and live stations by the pool and ocean at La Terrasse. A KidsOnly club for ages three to eleven and a One Tribe teens programme make it work for families as much as couples. On a bed-and-breakfast base, around an hour by road from the airport, it is heritage kept thoroughly modern.
