HAND-VETTED RESORTS

More Than a Beach — A Whole Island to Explore

Mark Twain wrote that heaven was copied after Mauritius, and a week here makes the claim feel less like hyperbole. Ringed by an almost-continuous coral reef, the island holds its lagoons still and impossibly blue — but turn inland and the postcard gives way to something richer: sugar-cane plains rising to forested mountains, waterfalls, and the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel.

At HighStreet Holidays we don't simply book Mauritius — we shape the island around you. A west-coast resort for flat-calm swimming and sunsets, the wilder south for drama and seclusion, the north for life and dining: the coast you choose changes the holiday entirely, and matching you to the right one is exactly what we do.

With access to a carefully vetted portfolio of resorts — from intimate beachfront retreats to grande-dame names with a century of history — we build a Mauritius that fits how you actually want to spend the week.

Mauritius rewards the traveller who looks past the beach. The lagoon is the welcome — the island itself is the reason you stay.

Signature Experiences
Moments That Linger
Beyond the lounger, Mauritius rewards the curious. These are the experiences our clients come home remembering.
Île aux Cerfs
Île aux Cerfs
A speedboat to the east-coast island playground — powder sand, a Bernhard Langer golf course ringed by lagoon, and water so shallow and warm you can wade out for what feels like forever.
Chamarel & the South
Chamarel & the South
The Seven Coloured Earths, a waterfall plunging through forest, and rum distilleries in the hills. The interior is where Mauritius stops being a beach and becomes a country.
Dolphins at Tamarin
Dolphins at Tamarin
Early morning off the west coast, pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins gather in the bay. Slip into the water quietly and swim alongside them as the light comes up.
Championship Golf
Championship Golf
Mauritius is one of the Indian Ocean's great golf destinations — clifftop and lagoon-side courses designed by Els, Langer and Player, played in year-round warmth.
Black River Gorges
Black River Gorges
The island's last great rainforest — hiking trails through endemic forest, ebony trees and viewpoints over the wild, untouched south-west. A different Mauritius entirely.
creole table mauritius
Creole Table
Indian, French, Chinese and African threads braided into one cuisine — a street-food rougaille, a Sunday sega, fresh palm-heart salad. Mauritian food is the island's quiet masterpiece.

Best Time to Visit
When to Go
PEAK BEACH SEASON
October to December
The warm, sunny build-up to the Mauritian summer — hot days, warm sea and the island at its most golden, before the heavier summer rains arrive. December brings festive crowds and peak rates. Among the most reliable beach weather of the year.
WINTER (DRY & SUNNY)
May to September
The Southern-hemisphere winter — cooler, drier and bright, with daytime highs of 24-26C. Ideal for sightseeing, hiking and golf. Evenings can feel cool, and the south-east coast is windier; the sheltered north and west stay calm.
SUMMER (HOT & HUMID)
November to April
Hot, humid and the warmest sea of the year, with short, heavy afternoon showers. January and February are the wettest, and the months when occasional cyclones can pass — though direct hits are rare and resorts are well prepared.
THE SWEET SPOT
April-May & September-October
The shoulder months reward the knowing traveller — warm seas, fewer crowds, lower rates and the gentlest weather of the year. Among our specialists' favourite times to send clients.
