Singita Pamushana Lodge

Singita Pamushana Lodge is a remote, ultra-exclusive Big-Five reserve, and it is worth being clear from the start: it is in south-east Zimbabwe, not near the Falls, on the private Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve — around 115,000 acres of sandstone ridges and lake, owned by the not-for-profit Malilangwe Trust and managed by Singita, sharing its southern boundary with Gonarezhou National Park. Its conservation story is the headline: one of the world's largest black-rhino concentrations, around 70, on a reserve that now restocks rhinos across Africa. Days run on twice-daily off-road game drives with no crowds, black-rhino tracking, sundowner boat cruises on Malilangwe Lake, visits to ancient rock-art sites, and dark-sky stargazing miles from anywhere, with over 400 bird species. Eight suites, each with a private plunge pool, sit in Great Zimbabwe and Shangaan design, alongside the five-bedroom Singita Malilangwe House for exclusive use. All-inclusive, it is reached by light aircraft of around two hours from Johannesburg to Buffalo Range, on set days, so the routing needs planning. It suits couples, families and the conservation-minded after somewhere off the beaten track.
