Water Garden Sigiriya

Water Garden Sigiriya is the Cultural Triangle base — a Channa Daswatte-designed villa resort set in 35 acres of landscaped water gardens of lotus ponds and streams, a few kilometres from the 2,000-year-old rock fortress of Sigiriya, whose own ancient gardens inspired the design. Its 30 freestanding villas, reed-fringed or over the water, are spacious and single-level, many with a private plunge pool, and the resort is unusually easy to move around — buggies and level paths make it one of the most accessible luxury stays on the island, a genuine rarity. The high-ceilinged, glass-walled restaurant and twin-level bar look toward Sigiriya Rock, there is an overwater spa and a large infinity pool, and the setting is built for touring the ancient heart of Sri Lanka: Sigiriya and Pidurangala, the Dambulla cave temples, the UNESCO cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, and the elephant-gathering safari at Minneriya. Inland and unhurried, it is the heritage-and-wildlife leg of an island trip.
