Belmond Hotel Caruso

Belmond Hotel Caruso is the iconic Amalfi Coast clifftop hotel — a restored eleventh-century palazzo at the highest point of Ravello's cliff, around three hundred and sixty-five metres above the sea, with what is often called the world's most photographed infinity pool, seemingly suspended between sea and sky. Its fifty rooms and suites carry original eighteenth-century frescoes, vaulted ceilings, marble and Italian antiques, many with private terraces over the coast, the sea or the gardens. Complimentary daily boat excursions aboard the hotel's wooden Ercole run to Amalfi and Positano, the hundred-year-old gardens spill with roses and lemon trees, and the dining moves from the summer-terrace Belvedere to a poolside wood-fired pizza restaurant and a piano bar. A wellness centre with Santa Maria Novella products, vintage Vespas and helicopter flights complete the romance, while Ravello's own Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, the towns of Amalfi and Positano, the Path of the Gods and the ruins of Pompeii and the island of Capri all sit within reach. It is the Amalfi icon — seasonal, at its best in the warmer months.
