Verdura Resort, a Rocco Forte Hotel

Verdura Resort is Rocco Forte's full-scale Sicilian flagship — a two-hundred-and-thirty-hectare golf, spa and beach estate on Sicily's southwest coast and the number-one family resort on the island. Two championship links-by-the-sea golf courses and a nine-hole par-three draw golfers, a four-thousand-square-metre spa with four outdoor thalassotherapy pools draws spa-goers, and around two kilometres of private beach, a sixty-metre infinity pool and a four-hundred-and-fifty-square-metre kids' club to age sixteen make it a natural multi-generational base. Its 203 rooms, suites and villas wear Olga Polizzi interiors of Sicilian terracottas and ochres, with sea-view balconies and terraces and private pools on the villas. Eight restaurants run from Sicilian to Japanese under chef Fulvio Pierangelini, with an organic farm behind them, and bed-and-breakfast includes breakfast, the spa, the beach, the golf range and bicycles. The setting is deep Sicily: the Greek temples of Agrigento's Valley of the Temples and the ruins of Selinunte sit on the doorstep, with the town of Sciacca and the wider island beyond. It is the active beach, golf and culture resort.
