Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is the island's design-and-family leg — a Bill Bensley creation on Tanjung Rhu's mile-long beach, set across some 20 hectares of rainforest between limestone cliffs and the Andaman Sea, right beside Malaysia's first UNESCO Global Geopark. Bensley's hand is everywhere: Malay and Moorish artefacts, rich tropical woods and Spanish marble, high ceilings and hammam-style baths across 68 Pavilions and 24 Villas, the villas with private pools and terraces. The beach runs roughly 1.6 kilometres, there is a 55-metre seaside adults' pool and a separate family pool, a Kids' Club and tennis, and on the doorstep the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park — mangroves, eagles and limestone caves explored by boat safari. Dining ranges from the Malay Ikan-Ikan, modelled on a traditional home, to the beachside Mediterranean Serai, the wood-fired Kelapa Grill and the Northern Indian HAVA, with the Rhu Bar for cocktails, and the Geo Spa adds daily yoga.
