Pangkor Laut Resort

Pangkor Laut Resort has a whole rainforest island to itself — a privately owned, 300-acre island about three miles off Perak in the Straits of Malacca, cloaked in two-million-year-old jungle, with no other resort on it. Around 140 villas step from the forest to the water: Sea Villas on stilts over the sea, Spa Villas by the Spa Village, and Beach, Hill and Garden Villas, many with outdoor bathtubs, up to Estates with private pools and living pavilions — among them the suite that Pavarotti loved. The famous beach is Emerald Bay, on the island's far side, once voted one of the world's best, and the Spa Village is a destination in its own right, with over-water spa villas and Malay, Chinese and Ayurvedic rituals. Dining runs from Feast Village and Uncle Lim's Straits-Chinese kitchen to the Royal Bay beach club and two adults-only tables on the water. Days fill with guided jungle walks ending in a swim and sunset cruises with canapes. Access is by boat, part of the journey — a rainforest-island escape with a world-class spa and a celebrated beach, best for couples, honeymooners and spa-and-nature lovers.
