“I had stayed at Four Seasons, One&Only and Velaa before visiting Glacier Lodge Eqi. They are all magnificent. But this is different in a way that is hard to articulate.”

Hotel Arctic
Greenland
Hotel Arctic
Hotel Arctic is the world's northernmost four-star hotel and Greenland's most famous, standing on the shores of the UNESCO Ilulissat Icefjord on Disko Bay. Every one of its rooms looks out over the icefjord or the bay, in Danish-elegant interiors hung with Greenlandic art, and the hotel adds five coast-edge aluminium igloo cabins (boardwalk-linked, open May to October) for sleeping beside the icebergs. Greenlandic cuisine is served at Restaurant Ulo, there is a terrace for midnight-sun drinks, and the whole hotel is CO2-neutral. The classic Ilulissat icefjord base.
Ilimanaq Lodge
Greenland
Ilimanaq Lodge
Ilimanaq Lodge is Greenland's standout design lodge: fifteen architect-designed, two-storey cabins set cliff-side in the historic Ilimanaq settlement on Disko Bay, reached only by a 30-minute boat transfer from Ilulissat through the UNESCO Icefjord. Each cabin of around 40 square metres has a wall-sized panorama window framing drifting icebergs and breaching whales from the bed or the private terrace. Dinner is gourmet, served at Restaurant Egede in a restored 1751 colonial building, and the whole lodge is solar-powered and off-grid. Remote, design-led and gastronomic, on the edge of the ice.
Kulusuk Hotel
Greenland
Kulusuk Hotel
Kulusuk Hotel is Greenland's only settlement hotel, on remote Kulusuk island in East Greenland, minutes from the airport that is the gateway to the Ammassalik region and easily added to an Iceland trip. You wake to barking sled dogs and views over ice-filled fjords and mountains, in one of around 34 comfortable twin rooms with private facilities and a sea or mountain view. A spacious dining room serves local delicacies, the food is well reviewed, and staff arrange glacier and dog-sledding tours, hikes and Greenlandic drum-dance evenings. Authentic Inuit-settlement immersion at the edge of the map.
