The Chedi Andermatt

The Chedi Andermatt is the design-led alpine resort — GHM's first European hotel, built in Jean-Michel Gathy's “Asia meets the Alps” style of wood, granite and leather and threaded with around two hundred fireplaces. Its roughly 106 rooms and suites all start at fifty-two square metres, with two-sided fireplaces, Hastens beds and mountain-view balconies, and its two-thousand-four-hundred-square-metre spa is built around a thirty-five-metre glass-covered indoor pool, joined by an outdoor pool, graduating-heat plunge pools, a hydrotherapy wing, saunas and an adult-only relaxation area. The Gemsstock gondola is a four-minute walk for skiing the linked SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun, one of central Switzerland's largest, while summer brings hiking, cycling and one of the country's highest eighteen-hole golf courses. The kitchen runs Asian and European dishes alongside a celebrated cheese cellar and wine, and the Ursern Valley of the central Swiss Alps — Gotthard country, where the Glacier Express passes through — sets the scene. It is a year-round, dual-season retreat: ski by day, spa by night.
